The Natalie Portman Hotel Chevalier scene was in September 2007 leaked online in advance of the film’s release. In a year in which celebrity “tapes” dominated the landscape of scandals, wrongfully a brilliant film was being reduced online that to the same flavor because of one scene.
Portman reportedly reveals this week that because of what happened online that year she won’t do such a film scene again.
“It really depressed me that half of every review on the film was about …. [that]. It made me think I shouldn’t have done it….
“I’m not prudish about [being unclothed in movies]. I think it’s beautiful in films, and …. is such a big part of life. My issue is that I feel it takes something away from what you’re doing when the focus is put on the wrong thing. My picture ended up on [the wrong] sites, and that’s the dilemma”.
Even the scene itself was stunning both in directing and its delivery. But in one week in fall 2007, that was all reduced online to the mere focus, which was not the focus of the scene in the first place.
“I just don’t want to do something that will end up as a screen grab on such sites.”
