This afternoon saw a flood of completely contradictory rumors via Twitter regarding New York City's Grand Central Station. At this point, it appears to be just a hoax. Or is it?
Tweets started firing off earlier about an evacuation of Grand Central. Other messages were more detailed, referring to a bomb scare and SWAT team action. The majority of Tweets on the subject right now seem to be from people fed up or relieved that this is just a hoax. But still some people are tweeting otherwise.
The Gothamist is reporting that the NYPD confirmed a suspicious package incident that caused an evacuation around 2 pm. They also note that this may have stemmed from someone reTweeting a 2007 article about a Manhattan steam pipe explosion in the vicinity.
I guess we'll know more about this in a little while!
